HTTP Anti-Virus Proxy

I have a windows 2003 box w/ many VM's one is IPCOP w/ Copfilter.
My question is does HAVP use a large amount of CPU processing power to scan webpages/downloads? I have noticed a significant lose in CPU from my stand alone machine to the VM enviroment.

I know I am sharing my CPU with other VM's but I was just wondering if HAVP normally used alot of CPU Power?

I am using IPCOP ver 1.4.10 w/ Copfilter ver .82 installed.
Currently Copfilter is using Ver .76 of HAVP.

Naturally virus scanning takes quite much CPU power. For normal surfing (small files, not archives) it isn't that bad though. I actually test HAVP inside VMware too. I don't notice any big slowdown, but I use it alone..

A wild guess could be 1GHz needed for every 50 requests/second.

Maybe raising VM priority more helps..

What ver of VMware are you using?

5.5 on WinXP / Athlon 2800+, using Debian works like greased lightning for me..

I have other server like

2003 AD
2003 Exchange
2003 Web Server x2
2003 database
IPCOP

My next questions was, how do you give priority to certain VM's.
I have searched high and low and havent found alot to tweak it.
I have just opened 'task manager' on the host and given that vm pid a 'above normal' priority?

Could be that there are so many services in 2003 that are taking juice, hehe. Or that 5.5 is slighly faster on Linux.

You are right, there is not much options, I use the normal and high priority when selected options. You should put all other VM on low priority then.

Well I left the rest of the VM's alone and and ran IPCOP just "aboveNormal" mode and it seems to run just great.
