I loaded IPCop which has new version of HACVP and probelem did not occur.

I am somewhat familiar with installing updates on a full linux distro, but how will I need to update HAVP and ClamAV on EFW?

You have to check EFW page for that. There is also mailing-lists for help. I think there is some devel-package so you can compile your own stuff.
