With clamd, every so often it will reload itself to check for new databases that may have been downloaded via freshclam. I believe by default it does this every 30 minutes, and it happens fairly fast.

Is there a comparable way to do this with HAVP when it's using the libclamav? I hate to do a full restart, as it seems to take a long time for HAVP to restart with libclamav.

The other option, I suppose, would be to use clamd scanner instead, but the config file warns of greater overhead. Are we talking a huge amount? Would it be more or less than the other commercial scanners that run daemon/socket style?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Cheers!

HAVP does check for new signatures every 60 mins by default. Or you can force it by HUP signal. I don't know why you think full restart is necessary.

#
# HAVP reloads scanners virus database by receiving a signal
# (send SIGHUP to PID from PIDFILE, see "man kill") or after
# a specified period of time. Specify here the number of
# minutes to wait for reloading.
#
# This only affects library scanners (clamlib, trophie).
# Other scanners must be updated manually.
#
# Default:
# DBRELOAD 60
