Post subject:  Could not lock Scannerfile: error

Hey all,

I'm testing out HAVP and it seems to work great, however the error file has many 'Could not lock Scannerfile:' messages:

31/08/2007 14:52:56 Could not lock Scannerfile: /var/tmp/havp/havp-HCEaxH

This doesn't really make sense as it works most of the time.

I am using tmpfs for the /var/tmp/havp, might that have something to do with it?

Yes Linux tmpfs has problems for many people. Just use some /var directly or use a loopback partition.

I guess it's some sort of kernel bug/feature, but never had time to investigate more.

On Solaris tmpfs works wonderfully, not a single problem..

Yeah, I've discovered that tmpfs, while a great idea, is kinda flaky on linux.

Digging around I've been able to resolve all my issues by doing the following:

1. Commenting out the shm mount point in /etc/fstab

2. Using these mount options (with a gig of ram)

tmpfs /var/tmp/havp tmpfs defaults,nosuid,noexec,mand,size=768M,mode=1777 0 0

Edit:

Turns out this method didn't work either. Or, it worked for a day before I got the error messages again.

As a compromise I'm mounting a loopback image w/mand enabled from a standard tmpfs partition. So far this works.
