Hello,

there is a problem after updating from Version 0.76 to 0.79.

I used the actual debian paket havp_0.79-1.i386.deb.

Afterwards i got this error message. It makes no difference wether I use "havp" or "clamav" as user and/or group.
What does this "bind() failed" error mean ? I have actually checked all file permissions, but there is still no reason do deny any access.

I would be glad for some hints.

Thanks

schnulli

bind() is for TCP socket.. there is still some old HAVP or other program running in your configured PORT. Try telnetting there if it responds or "lsof -i tcp | grep LISTEN".

Hello Henrik,

tanks for your fast reply.

I did install Version 0.79 again and followed your adwise.

There is neither a HAVP running (I had a look by using "ps") nor is there another program listening at port 80. I had also a look by using your "lsof -i tcp".
The only listened port is ipp from the cupsd (I think it must be 631).
I also do not use another proxy.

I tried a telnet connection via port 80 (because I have defined this as PORT in the havp.config). Then I got: Telnet: unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused.

I also deleted my iptable-chains to avoid a connection error in case of wrong defined iptables-rules. No difference.

So I decided to try your standard port 8080 and this worked !!
I tried again with Port 80 - no chance !
The consol message with port 80 is always "Could not create server (already running?) Exiting.. (Error message in havp.log as described).

There is neither any havp process running nor any PID-file in /var/run/havp existent.

So it seems to be a problem when using port 80.

I think I will still use the standard port. But I can see no reason for the change, because in version 0.76 port 80 worked as well.

Thanks a lot for your kindly and very fast support !!!

Schnulli

Actually it's a tiny bug in HAVP.. the user is changed before port is created. So because it is not root anymore, ports under 1024 can't be used.

Cheers,
Henrik
